Sleeping Beauty

Every once in a while, I’ll surprise my husband and straighten my hair. Now you have to understand–If I do it, its a 2 hour process. If I go to the salon, it’s a 4 hour process.  (See why I only do it “once in a while?”)

But, it makes the man smile so…

This time I decided to do it myself. As I was finishing up he walked around the corner and snapped a few photos. And inspired this post.

He said, “Honey you should write about this.

Blank stare.

You didn’t get ‘new hair,” he explained. “After a little time and a little work, you’re bringing out something that was already there.”

He had a point.

I began to think about 2017. It has been full of transition, tears, re-learning, re-shaping.

But I can see the beauty.

Maybe, like me, you’ve felt like you’ve been in the fire.

When you walk through the flames of oppression you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. (Isaiah 43:2b)

Perhaps, you’ve taken a detour on your way to your dream. Don’t worry. It’s all about the timing.

When the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His Son… (Galatians 4:4)

Feeling like you’re in a press? Press on my friend. You are not alone.

We are pressed on every side by troubles but we are not crushed (2 Corinthians 4:8)

It could be that you’re ending this year, feeling exhausted from the strain on your heart and soul, praying for relief, hoping for a change in the New Year.

Be encouraged.  There is a majestic beauty that only emerges through intense heat, in time and by pressure. Let patience have her perfect work. (James 1:4)

Beloved, do not be dismayed. Do not fear. The One who holds eternity in His hands is holding you. Stay in His hands. It’s the safest place you can be.

Place your hopes, dreams, past and your New Year in His hands. He can be trusted.
